Successful Demolition of Link Bridge Between Sports Hall and Swimming Pool

We’re pleased to announce the successful completion of a complex project involving the removal of a link bridge between a sports hall and swimming pool. Our experienced demolition team delivered the project on time, ensuring safety and professionalism throughout.

Project Overview

The project required the safe dismantling and demolition of the link bridge, with a strong emphasis on precision and safety. Before beginning any physical work, a comprehensive Refurbishment and Demolition (R&D) asbestos surveywas conducted to identify and manage any hazardous materials. This was followed by an in-depth methodology review, audit, and scope analysis to ensure all aspects of the project were thoroughly planned.

Demolition and Dismantling Process

To mitigate the risk of flexing at the ends of the structure, we installed a purpose-built scaffold support system. This provided crucial stability throughout the dismantling process.

Before removing the reinforced concrete slab spanning the steel beams, our team made precision cuts at either end of the bridge to safely separate the slab from the adjoining buildings. This careful preparation was essential to prevent any unintentional damage to the surrounding structures.

The roof of the link bridge was then carefully removed by operatives working from a scissor lift, ensuring safe and efficient access to the structure.

Following the separation, the concrete slab was methodically removed using a demolition-spec excavator, maintaining the integrity of the surrounding structures.

For the dismantling of the steel framework, a highly skilled operator used an oxy-propane burning torch to progressively cut the steel beams. This approach was chosen to prevent any disturbance to the adjoining structures while efficiently removing the steelwork.

Commitment to Sustainability

In alignment with our commitment to environmental responsibility, we meticulously managed the materials generated from the demolition:

  • Concrete, timber, and metals (both ferrous and non-ferrous) were sorted and sent for recycling.
  • General waste was transported to a recycling facility for further processing, significantly reducing landfill contributions.
