Major Refurbishment and Pre-Demolition Asbestos Surveys

When a building is going to be upgraded, refurbished or demolished, then a detailed asbestos survey is required. This survey involves a thorough inspection to locate all materials containing asbestos and is usually completed in vacant and/or unoccupied buildings. Major refurbishment and pre- demolition asbestos surveys include:

  • Executive summary and recommended removal actions
  • Introduction and initial observations
  • Details of no access areas
  • Asbestos fibre identification report
  • Table of positive samples
  • Table of negative samples
  • Photographs of positive sample locations

Re-inspection Surveys

The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 requires that materials that have been identified as containing asbestos should be routinely re-inspected (e.g. on an annual basis). This survey must be done more frequently in high disturbance environments. A re-inspection will ensure the asbestos material assessment always contains the most current information. Any damage caused by disturbance or any deterioration will be identified and remedial work can then be done to reduce any potential risks.
